Max learned chess at around 8 years old, when he started working with his first coach in a local program. 3 years later, at age 11, Max played his first rated tournament, scoring 2/4. Despite this lackluster start, he quickly became increasingly engaged in the game, playing more and more tournaments and raising his rating in the process. Outside of chess, Max plays the piano and likes to write short stories and run in his free time.
