More than 30 students from Salama Gachie Community School in Nairobi, Kenya competed in the FIDE-rated CTC Open Chess Championship 2025, held from November 21–23, 2025 in Ruiru, Kenya.
The event was organized by CTC to expand chess opportunities for young players in Kenya Notable outcomes from students in CTC’s chess program at Salama Gachie include:
- Hilary Mukabwa achieved a FIDE rating of 1509 in the Open category.
- Brian Ayondi achieved a FIDE rating of 1522.
- Gloria Wakori, Lehman Okoyo, and Josphat Wanambisi are expected to receive a FIDE rating upon winning one game against a rated opponent.
These accomplishments reflect the students’ dedication and the growing strength of the chess program at Salama Gachie. CTC remains committed to providing free, high-quality remote chess instruction, offering structured training for all skill levels, increasing access to rated tournaments, and supporting long-term chess development in underserved communities.
