1st Unruly Queens Chess Festival Set on 2022 Columbus Sunday

Unruly Queens’ first post-pandemic in-person event, the Fall 2022 Unruly Queens Chess Festival, is drumming up the nation’s collective effort to promote the game among young girls and to close the gender gap persistent in the chess world.

Participants in this event will have the opportunity to meet many girls and female players, as well as coaches and chess fans from the tri-state area, connect with the chess community, and have a full day of fun with the game! The event is UQ’s endeavor to celebrate the chess achievements that many girls have accomplished or are working on.

The celebration will take place in the popular Washington Square Park Chess Plaza in NYC, from 1-5pm on 10/09: the Sunday of Columbus Day long weekend. It will feature many electrifying activities, including two simuls with top female masters, a blitz tournament, and a puzzle contest! Winners will be awarded with medals, autographed chess books, and customized chess sets! Souvenirs will also be distributed to all participants, and refreshments will be provided throughout.

Whether you live in New York and want to spend an afternoon with your chess friends, or are travelling in the area on the holiday and want to play some fun games during your trip, please come! Please also bring your friends and families to make the festival truly festive!

Hope to see you all there, and let’s celebrate together our love and passion for chess!
